US OPEN • KIM REACHES 4TH ROUND!

Sep. 3 • At the US Open in New York, Kim is through to the 4th round after defeating Petra Kvitova in straight sets, 6-3 6-0. The Arthur Ashe Stadium was the background of the second meeting between Petra Kvitova and Kim Clijsters this year. Earlier this year Kim beat the tall Czech in Miami, 6-1 6-1. In New York things started differently though. Kvitova played very hard, secure on the lines and basically blew Kim away. Kim faced an early break and struggled on her first serve. Kvitova could not keep up with the high level though and started producing double faults herself. Kim started to come back into the match, and on the scoreboard.

Kim then took six games in a row and won the first set 6-3. In the second set the title holder powered on. Often Kvitova produced a hit and miss after about two returns, if not earlier. Kim produced a second series of six games and took the match in an hour and two minutes 6-3 and 6-0.

In the next round, Kim will face the Serbian Ana Ivanovic.
